Sleek & Sustainable Prefab Outdoor Shower Assembles in 30 Minutes

There’s nothing quite as invigorating as showering outdoors, under an open sky as birds flit overhead. While there are many ways to build one from the ground up, it does take time. Oborain is one Massachusetts-based company that’s offering pre-fabricated models that are hand-built in their shop, uses sustainably-harvested materials and can be assembled and plumbed on any level surface in an impressive thirty minutes.

Making its appearance in June of this year, Oborain is the first pre-fab outdoor shower with a modern aesthetic, and can be used as either a temporary or permanent structure. Founders Jim and Kirsten say that

Oborain began with a simple idea: build an outdoor shower that could be set up on any level surface, plumbed with garden hoses, then disassembled and stored inside over the winter. No need to decide on a permanent location for the shower; no trenches; no worry about freezing pipes. Simply store it away, and in the spring bring it back out, set it up, and you’re ready to enjoy another season of showering outdoors.

After five months of prototyping and refining, they settled on a design that according to 3rings, includes a stainless steel frame which provides the structure for a hardwood deck made of Cumaru, a sustainably-sourced timber from Brazil. The side panelling is made from Dark Red Meranti, a 100% certified sustainable Malaysian hardwood that is weather- and split-resistant. During winter, it can be disassembled and stored indoor

There’s a deluxe three-jet shower head; and even better, the company says that future versions will eventually incorporate solar hot water and rainwater harvesting. The Oborain comes in three sizes (Solo, Duo and Trio) which can expand to include a changing area. It’s not cheap (from $4,300 for a single stall without doors, to $12,000 for the Trio), but if you’re looking for a trade-off of quick, easy, environmentally-friendly materials and relatively hassle-free, then the Oborain is worth considering.
