    $180M will convert Atlanta’s City Hall East into mixed-use property

    The 2.1-millionsquare-foot Sears, Roebuck & Co. building in Atlanta is one significant step closer to being transformed into the mixed-use Ponce City Market now that Jamestown Properties has completed the $27 million acquisition of the 1920s-era property from the city of Atlanta. Jamestown will work in conjunction with its sustainable development subsidiary, Green Street Properties, on the $180 million restoration and redevelopment of the historic building, which holds the distinction of being the largest brick structure

    EPA Lists U.S. Cities with the Most Energy Star Certified Space

    The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently released its third annual list of U.S. cities with the most Energy Star-certified buildings.

    The top three are familiar from past years: Los Angeles is first for the third year and Washington, D.C. and San Francisco are second and third, respectively, for the second year. New York made the biggest jump to fifth, up five places from 2009. California dominates EPA’s list with five out of the 25 listed cities. More than 6,200 commercial buildings were Energy Star certified in 2010, up 60% from 2009.

    User’s Manual Key to Meeting Requirements of the Green Standard

    “Because of the breadth of the key topic areas covered in the standard – site sustainability, water use efficiency, energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality and the building’s impact on the atmosphere, materials and resources – it is important for users to have a thorough understanding of how they come together to create a sustainable building,” Kent Peterson, former chair of the Standard 189.1 committee, said. “The User’s Manual aids architects and engineers in applying the standard to design; general and specialty contractors in constructing buildings that are in compliance; and plan examiners and field inspectors in enforcing the standard where adopted into code.”
